Department profile

The department of laboratory medicine is a clinical laboratory center. It provides clinical test service, medical education, also takes part in research of laboratory medicine. There are 2450 square meters laboratory area which divided in two parts---Xinjiekou branch and Huilongguan branch.

The laboratory provides a wide range of services to all the hospital inpatients and outpatients with five specialty sections:

--general clinical test laboratory

--clinical biochemistry laboratory

--clinical immunology laboratory

--clinical microbiology laboratory

--molecular biology laboratory

Employees and Instruments

There are 72 full time employees in the laboratory. The department is capable of conducting over 400 test items. In 2014, the total test amount reaches 1,748,319 samples which mean 6,307,396 test items. The department of laboratory medicine possess many advance instruments about 40 million Yuans such as sysmex XN 9000 hematology analyzer, Hitachi automatic biochemistry system, Roche 602 immunology analyzer, Bruker Maldi TOF mass spectrometer, etc.

Laboratory certification and quality control

The clinical laboratory got ISO15189 laboratory certification in 2008 and attained excellence in quality control works conducted by National and Beijing Center for clinical laboratory of ministry of Health every year.

Teaching and research

As the 4th teaching hospital of Peking university health science center, Department of laboratory medicine assumes the responsibility of teaching post-graduates, undergraduate, technical secondary school and nurse school students. We have open online CME in the biggest Chinese CME webs .

Besides providing clinical service, our department also takes part in clinical and basic researches. Our academic interesting concentrated on three areas---Venous Thromboembolism(VTE) and its relationship with trauma and inflammation, the metabolism biochemistry of bone structure, the pathogens research of orthopedic and burn patients. We have got many funds and rewards from governments. There are 54 papers published in nearly 10 years.

Communication and service

Our department communicated with international organization actively in many academic areas. We are cooperates with Lund University of Sweden, University of Hong Kong, University of Pennsylvania and many high ranked laboratory medicine department in China. We also worked quite a lot in Chinese society of laboratory medicine and many other academic organizations in China. Now our department is the secretariat of Beijing association of clinical laboratory management.
