Department of Intensive Care Unit in Beijing Jishuitan Hospital was founded in 1999. Under the leadership of head of department, Ning Zhou, ICU follows the main principles of "rigorous, honest, intention" way of working. After 15 years of efforts and development, the establishment of intensive care medical science, cultivate a good professional medical team, the ICU has become the hospital intensive caring and emergency medical supporting main contributor.

In the rescue of multiple trauma, traumatic brain injury, MODS and all kinds of shock, the ICU development have strong clinical experience, especially in the rescue of traumatic shock . In organic function monitoring and supporting, the department is one of the best in China’s national level. In severe acute pancreatitis, multiple organ failure, severe trauma, ventilator dependent patients, hypertonic dehydration , gastrointestinal function monitoring, enteral nutrition support, anti-infection treatment, sedation and analgesia, the ICU have unique intensive care insights.

Our department carries out continuous invasive hemodynamic monitoring (ABP, PiCCO), bedside blood purification, especially in multiple organ dysfunction syndrome with early treatment, merging multiple trauma without heparin blood filter and improving the survival rate of patient with acute respiratory distress syndrome complicated with acute renal failure, meanwhile working on shortening the course of treatment.

Development of ICU is an important symbol of the whole level of hospital medical, therefore Beijing Jishuitan Hospital’s ICU department lately expends the main site (Xingjiekou) and sub-site (Huilongguan) of ICU, renovates with imported air purification equipment, multifunctional crane tower, and variety of modern medical equipment.

Critical care medicine is an emerging discipline in modern medicine and an important symbol of medical development. Our aim is not only for training of undergraduate medical personnel, it also help with training of medical personnel who will work in the department during work rotation in our hospital.

Through continuous exploration and development, ICU department continuously improves the survival rate of intensive caring. We also providing medical supports to emergency medical incidents within the nation, participates and commands the rescue works during the incidents.
