Beijing Jishuitan Hospital pharmacy department is responsible for dispensing medications for patients with careful pharmaceutical services. Our department consists of pharmacists, as well as technical and support personnel, who work closely together to provide patients with the highest quality pharmaceutical care.

The pharmacy department has incumbent 9 pharmacists with an advanced-level professional title, 29 pharmacists with a medium-level professional tile, and 49 pharmacists with a primary-level professional title. Of all the pharmacists, one holds a PhD degree, 23 of them have a master degree and 54 have a bachalor degree

Within the department of pharmacy, there are outpatient pharmacy, emergency pharmacy, inpatient pharmacy, cadre pharmacy and Infection pharmacy. The average numbers of dispensing are 4200 prescriptions for outpatients,600 prescriptions for emergency patients and 13000 prescriptions for inpatients everyday. In order to improve the quality of dispensing and drug safety for patients with better hardware protection, we provide the inpatient pharmacy with a single dose dispensing machine in 2010 and the outpatient pharmacy with an automatic dispensing machine in 2014. To ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment for patients, in addition to the dispensing work, we also provide other pharmaceutical care such as prescription intervention, prescription review, patient counseling, providing education to health-care professionals, medication enquiry , blood drug concentration monitoring, adverse drug reaction monitoring and reporting, therapeutic management and chronic disease management.

For our 1500-bed hospital, we provide 13 clinical pharmacists distributing in 16 clinical departments including department of orthopaedic trauma, department of hand surgery, department of burn, department of orthopedic, department of spine surgery, department of bone tumor, department of pediatric orthopaedics, intensive care unit, department of cardiology, department of respiratory, department of endocrinology, department of neurology, department of rheumatism, department of gynecology and obstetrics, department of geriatric and department of pediatrics. Clinical pharmacists' daily work mainly includes participating in ward round and case discussion, checking prescriptions, medication intervention, pharmacy ward rounds, patient medical education, monitoring of medicine, medication consultation, pharmaceutical lectures for health-care professionals, adverse reaction monitoring and reporting, blood drug concentration monitoring, etc.

Department of pharmacy pays great attention to teaching. It became the practice base of Beijing School of hygiene In 1983; it was approved by the Peking University Health Science Center as a teaching base in 1988; it became one of the first clinical pharmacist training bases of the Ministry of health In 2006, and became the base for clinical pharmacist’s teacher training of the Ministry of health in 2012. Up to now, it has trained 52 clinical pharmacists and 52 clinical pharmacist’s teachers for medical institutions all over the country, making a remarkable contribution to the construction of the clinical pharmacist system in China.It acquired national drug clinical trial institution qualification and has undertaken the daily management and operation in 2005. It became the Beijing pharmacovigilance station in 2012.

Department of pharmacy organized national continuing education and training courses for hospital pharmacy, such as the prescription review and clinical pharmacy work.

Department of pharmacy also pays great attention to pharmaceutical scientific research work. Since 2010, it has organized Beijing medical institutions prescription review work. In 2012, it organized writing 14 prescriptions review guidelines promoted to the country by the Ministry of health. Since 2013, it has became the team leader of the prescription review group in China Central Group of INRUD(International Network for the Rational Use of Drugs),and has organized prescription review work participated by 105 three general hospitals in China. Chronic diseases management subjects have been developed in department of cardiology and department of endocrinology since 2014.
